1100 total very low-income units in Southeast Washington, D.C. was awarded a $30.1 Million HOPE VI grant in August 2000 to completely revitalize the 80-acre community as a mixed income neighborhood. The application was among the highest scorers in the 2000 competitive grant process. THC and its partner, A&R Development led the planning with the East Capitol Dwellings Community. Demolition of the old public housing was completed in November, 2005 and the new 152-unit senior building was fully occupied by June, 2005. The remaining approximately 1200 unit revitalization project, including rental and homeownership units was completed in 2009.
